The Texarkana Moonlight Murders

by Michael Polzella
The Phantom Killer

Through the spring of 1946, an unidentified criminal known as the “Texarkana Phantom Killer” committed numerous assaults and murders in the city. Five people were killed and three were wounded.

With each murder, panic ran through Texarkana. While the murders became known as “Moonlight Murders” by the media due to the full moon during the times of attack, the assailant earned the name “Phantom Killer” as the person would vanish after each of his many attacks.

Several individuals claimed to be the mysterious Phantom Killer and other citizens came forward with accusations. Despite the claims, no arrest was ever made.
