On June 10, 1936, President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Arkansas in conjunction with the Arkansas Centennial celebration (June 15 is actual statehood date).
After morning events in Hot Springs, he dined at Couchwood, home of Centennial chair Harvey Couch. FDR traveled to Rockport and Malvern before making remarks in Little Rock at the state fairgrounds.
The street he traveled to get to the fairgrounds was renamed Roosevelt Road in 1935, in anticipation that he would be on it in 1936 as part of the Centennial.
Following his remarks, he dined at Sen. Joseph T. Robinson’s house before departing that night.
