Located on the grounds of Charlotte Museum of History, the Hezekiah Alexander House is the oldest surviving structure in Mecklenburg County.
A second-generation American of German ancestry, Hezekiah moved to North Carolina with his brother sometime after 1754. Hezekiah was a prosperous farmer and prominent leader of his community, even serving on the committee appointed to draft North Carolina’s first constitution.
The stone house Hezekiah built and lived in with his family for almost three decades was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Today, the Hezekiah Alexander House remains preserved as a historic house museum.
