Stay safe. Stay well. Walk confidently.

Did you know managing socially distant pedestrian flow is more than just arrows taped to the floor?

It is.

Slow clap for civil engineers.

Atkins Global, a European design, engineering and project management firm’s task force on safe social distancing is taking a multidisciplinary approach.

The task force will focus on public spaces and bring together highway engineers, urban designers, transport planners and landscape architects to identify issues and evaluate improvements. Already on the list: automating crosswalks, adding bicycle lanes and social distancing signage, and increasing cleanings.

They’ll also use software for modeling pedestrian flow and simulating social distancing challenges.
