Arkansas is rife with ghost stories, haunted places and paranormal activity. One infamous abnormality is that of the Gurdon Light.
First reported in the 1930s, a mysterious light sometimes floats above the railroad tracks near the small town of Gurdon in Clark County. Numerous theories exist to explain the phenomenon, but local legend connects it to a brutal 1931 murder of William McClain – a railway foreman who was beaten to death by one of his employees.
The Gurdon Light was first sighted shortly after this murder, with many believing the light to be McClain’s ghostly lantern glowing in the night.
