The Argenta Historic District in North Little Rock has “anchored the revival of the city’s urban core,” according to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas. Its architecture is reflected in roots of a city of railroad yards, cotton mills and factories.
The area lost vitality in the 1960s due to the suburban flight and interstate construction. In the early 1990s, the North Little Rock City Council established the Historic District Commission to preserve the area’s architecture. Over 69 properties were rehabilitated and caused property values to go up over 400 percent.
The Argenta Downtown Council continues growth through events and new developments.
