City ordinance to pay homeless people to pick up trash

A quick trip around downtown Little Rock will likely yield a heartbreaking number of panhandlers, but the city is actively trying to combat the issue. An ordinance was recently passed that will pay homeless people minimum wage to help clean up trash around Little Rock.

The program, spearheaded by Canvas Community Church, is set to receive $80,000 in funding from the Public Works Department. Participants would be able to work four hours a day for three days a week, according to the ordinance. It will also include supervisors to assist with the employees’ transportation to and from work sites.
