The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department has suggested a “split diamond” alternative that will exclude Interstate 30 from a policy that limits freeways to six lanes.
What is a “split diamond” alternative? Danny Straessle from AHTD explains.
“In a split diamond, you have more than one street that intersects the on and off ramps. Between the two sets of on and off ramps that form the diamond, there’ll be three streets bisecting it,” Straessle said. “This plan will move traffic further south and disperse it into the downtown street grid over a wider area, rather than a concentrated point.”
