Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia was the recipient of a generous gift last month, but the benefactor chose not to be recognized. For the second time in as many years, OBU was given an unrestricted $1 million donation from an anonymous donor.
The unrestricted designation means the university is free to spend the money in whatever direction it chooses, a rarity in regards to higher education.
Colleges and universities in the United States received just 15 unrestricted donations of $1 million or more last year, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, a magazine that covers nonprofit news around the world.
