Love cheese dip? Thank an Arkansan

Debates abound on whether or not cheese dip was actually “invented” in Arkansas, but regardless of its origin it plays an inarguable role in the state’s food culture.

Mexico Chiquito restaurants’ owner Blackie Donnally created his signature chip accompaniment in 1935, after he and his wife relocated to Little Rock from the Texas/Mexico border and opened their first restaurant. Little Rock was named host of the first World Cheese Dip Championship some 75 years later.

This year’s 10th annual event is a virtual fundraiser scheduled for October. Cheese dip should always be honored, and proceeds will benefit Harmony Health Clinic.
