In the rural Ozark Mountain town of Oark you’ll find the state’s oldest general store, and one of few in the country that’s retained its original rustic charm and neighborly reputation.
The Oark General Store opened in 1890 as a mainstay for food and necessities, as it was the only year-round business of its kind in the isolated area. Despite frequent ownership changes, there was often someone cooking, and to this day locals and travelers alike will tell you they serve the best homestyle food around.
The store turns 130 this year, complete with its original floors, ceiling and walls.
