Eight miles from the golf capital of Pinehurst, in the town of Carthage, the Tyson & Jones Buggy Factory hit its peak production in 1890, turning out 3,000 vehicles a year.
The last of its buggies were delivered in 1925 with the arrival of the horseless carriage, aka the automobile.
Hitch a ride on one of these early buggies at the Carthage Buggy Festival on May 7, an annual tradition celebrating the town’s heritage. The day also includes vintage tractor and classic car shows, arts and antiques, live bands, and 100-plus food and craft vendors. Check it out here.
