In the U.S., stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death.
“A recent study shows that stroke patients treated at hospitals participating in Get With The Guidelines Stroke program are 10 percent more likely than those in non-participating hospitals to be discharged home, rather than a rehabilitation center or other facility,” said Cammie Marti, director of quality and systems improvement for the American Heart Association.
Hospitals in Arkansas received awards through the AHA/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Stroke program. The awards recognize hospitals’ commitment and success in ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment.
