One man’s vision creates a nonprofit for HIV assistance

According to the Arkansas Department of Health, Arkansas is one of seven states with high rates of HIV transmission, and it has 6,500 people living with the disease. In fact, 18% of Arkansans don’t even know they have HIV.

Enter ARcare Positive Connections, a nonprofit that was started in 2000 by Dr. Dan Moore, who was frustrated when trying to find support in Arkansas for a friend with HIV. Today, after decades of growth, it offers statewide “rapid HIV testing, awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, HIV medical and case management services, and HIV empowerment programming” through health centers, clinics and telehealth.
