After three generations of Paula Dempsey’s family were diagnosed with health issues that required a gluten-free diet, she got to work. No way was she going to live without birthday cakes and confections for her brood, so she did what any entrepreneurial grandmother would do: She started a bakery to serve both her family and the community.
Her namesake, Dempsey Bakery, boasts cakes, cookies and more that are vegan and free of gluten, wheat, soy and nuts. Patrons praise the lunch items too, from fancy grilled cheese to sandwiches drizzled with garlic aioli, and commend the staff’s knowledge of allergies.
